Welcome from the Director
The 2022-2023 period has witnessed the changes that accompanied the leadership transition, which began in 2022 with the appointment of the new management team that I have had the pleasure to lead. On the scientific front, a significant part of our efforts has been the implementation of the actions outlined in the Severo Ochoa 2020-2023 strategic plan, including the launch of new research lines and the expansion of two strategic services: the plant growth chambers that replicate extreme climates, and microscopy with super-resolution technology. These new capacities represent a boost for developing solutions aimed at reducing the effects of climate change on the productive sector. In this regard, it is worth highlighting the establishment of CRAG’s first spin-off, “PLANeT Biotech”, with essential support from CRAG’s Knowledge and Technology Transfer Office, which was restructured at the end of 2022. Collaborations with companies in the sector have also been promoted and, together with dissemination actions on the development of more sustainable and resilient agricultural systems facilitated by plant biotechnology, they make up one of the fundamental pillars to drive the impact of our research.
In this report with a new format, we aim to share the most significant and representative aspects of the cutting-edge research carried out at CRAG, which, along with attracting international talent and establishing new institutional collaborations beyond Europe, constitute the foundation for addressing new scientific and technological challenges. At the same time, CRAG promotes diversity as a catalyst for creativity and innovation, and we advocate for equality and equity for all groups within our community.
This progress has been possible thanks to the introduction of a management model based on a leadership team and the commitment of our excellent administrative and technical support professionals. Together, we drive transformative changes, both in the research field and for our society.
